Minutes

 

The meeting was called to order by President VP Michele Rose at 7:30 pm at the Severna Park Library. Michele started the meeting with the introduction of new members, guests, and participants.

 

Secretary’s Report:  Jerry Pesterfield presented the October minutes for approval.  Without objection the minutes were approved as submitted. 

 

Treasurer’s Report:  .Steve Poland reviewed the financial report for October.

Income – Dues $70.00, Money Market $34.23, CD interest $997.26

            Expenses –Security $24.00

            Balances as of 06/30/2007:

            Checking                     $1,654.19

            Money Market                      $23,511.60

            Beautification Fund    $2,450.60

Janet Greenip- she spoke for a few minutes updating us on the status of the special session in Annapolis.

SPEAKER:

Lt Shawn Jones (Anne Arundel County Fire Dept.) discussed fire safety and preparedness with the membership.The presentation he presented will be attached to the distribution of this report. Key Points: Smoke alarms correctly placed throughout the house and to replace batteries. In case of fire the first priority is for everyone to exit the house and to meet at a agreed to location.

 

Environmental Committee:  Carla Logan, GSP Watershed Action Group, discussed various legislation supporting the Bay and Watershed restorations. She requested GSPC support of the County bill being introduced by Cathy Vitale, Bill 85-07 Tax Credit-Stormwater Management, Hearing 11-19-07. This bill provides a tax credit for homeowners and business that install Environmentally Friendly Storm Water Management Practices. Mr. Al Johnston proposed a resolution of GSPC support for this Bill. The resolution was unanimously approved by the GSPC membership present.

 

Police Relations:   No report

 

Public Works:  No report and no issues presented

 

Centennial/ASPIRE:  ASPIRE will hold it annual dinner on Jan. 16, 2008 at Chartwell Country Club. All organizations are encouraged to nominate community leaders on the basis of sustained, positive, and visionary leadership. Send name and address of nominee, along with a description of his or her service to your organization in approx.100 words by Jan.8th to Susan Nolte at csnolte@verizon.net. . Nominees will be honored at the dinner.

 

BWI Noise Committee:  No report

 

Zoning/Legislation:  Al Johnston reviewed the proposed amendments to 77-07 Zoning, Housing for Elderly of Moderate Means, Hearing, that were the result of the GSPC Board meeting. With minor changes the membership approved a resolution for Al to submit.

Beautification:  No Report

 

Nominating Committee: John Norville reported that Past-Pres. John Strange & Past Nominations Comm. Member Charlie Miller have agreed to be nominated to the 2007 Nominations Committee and to so serve if elected Nov. 13, 2007. They were approved by the membership. The Nominations Committee submitted all but one of the present slate of Officers & Directors as its Report of Nominations at Dec. 11 meet. Michele Rose has chosen to not run in 2008. All others have previously agreed to serve another term.Additional nominations will be accepted from the floor. Ballot will be prepared, & Elections will be Jan. 8, 2008, with electronic voting permitted per revised By-Laws, & as received & tabulated the Secretary.

 

Education:   Michele Rose reported that she had attended the Severna Park High School CAC meeting where needed improvements were discussed at length.  Mr. Dykstra, SPHS principal, noted that he would like to have the windows replaced. There was disagreement among those in attendance as to the best course to pursue regarding the aging facility.  The first School Board Nominating Commission has been appointed which consists of eleven people – five people were appointed by Governor O’Malley, one by County Executive Leopold and five by specific organizations, including the Teachers’ Association and the County Council of PTA’s.

Maureen Carr-York attended the cluster CAC meeting which includes representatives from each of the elementary schools, the middle school and the high school in the Severna Park feeder system. Each school addressed their specific needs and discussed how to work together for all of the schools. 

 

New Business: Dan Nataf mentioned that the latest Survey conducted by his staff was available through a link on the GSPC web site or www.aacc.edu/csli .
