August Meeting Agenda

Roche Principal Spotlight Birus

Our guest speaker will be R. Lynn Birus, Principal, Severna Park Elementary School. Ms. Birus will share the exciting news of the award of the “Blue Ribbon” status to the school this spring, and what the Blue Ribbon acknowledges and celebrates.  She will also share some insights into our elementary schools as we enter the 2015-2016 school year.

We will also hear from a candidate for the Democratic Nomination for Congressional District 4, Retired Army Lt. Colonel Warren Christopher.

In keeping with our usual practice, candidates for office are welcome to join us at our meetings as long as they contact the President in advance to arrange a time. Each will be afforded one 5 minute period to introduce himself/herself and make a statement.  This opportunity will be afforded to each candidate once during the primary cycle and once again following the primary.  On this date, the candidate will also be allowed to come early to the meeting and speak individually with any delegates who may wish to do so, and may leave literature on the table.  To avoid becoming a venue for “debates” we will not allow questions from the floor during or following the candidate’s presentation.  There will be other opportunities for debates during the election cycle, and our purpose is to provide our member communities with an opportunity to “meet” a candidate in a community meeting, not to explore in-depth the merits of the candidacy.

Mark your calendars for our September meeting, when we will welcome Superintendent George Arlotto just in time to share new initiatives and plans for the school year.

See you Tuesday evening!!!

February Meeting Files

First, is the Agenda for the February Meeting, where we will focus on current planning, zoning and legislative initiatives.
Third, is the Planning and Zoning Watch List as prepared by Art Timmons.  This document compiles a tremendous amount of information which Art has drawn from multiple sources for us.  Please review it for those matters and areas which interest you or your community the most and give us feedback on what you think GSPC should do.
Fourth, is the list of Short Links prepared by Art so we can all find, very easily, documents and contact points we might need.

October Meeting Agenda

Please plan to attend our GSPC meeting this Tuesday.  We will be hearing from numerous candidates for office who are eager to take your questions and Hear your concerns.

We also plan to discuss some urgent matters pertaining to Planning and Zoning including a proposal by the State of Maryland to build 85 low income housing units (apartments) on 4 acres of R2 land located on Ritchie Highway.  Since this is such a drastic departure from our zoning and our small area plan, we should discuss this in some detail.  Councilman Dick Ladd will share the details with us.

See you on Tuesday!!!

Speaker for the August Meeting

Traffic_map_anne_arundelThe speaker at the next meeting will be someone from the Anne Arundel County Traffic Engineering Office to discuss area road projects and questions from the group.  Please feel free to bring your questions and concerns for this informative session.

January 2014 Meeting Agenda

County Executive Laura Neuman will be our guest. She will discuss her first year in office and her hopes for future initiatives.

We have a nominating committee report that could not be presented because our December meeting was cancelled due to the library closing.  Ordinarily we adopt the report in December then vote electronically.  We then take further votes from any attendees at the January meeting whose communities have not voted.   Right now we are trying to do what we can to determine the best way to proceed in accordance with our bylaws.  Please keep on the lookout for future communications on this topic!

Also, please email me if there are updates in your community officers or delegates.  I am working on updating our lists and apologize for mistakes in our lists.  Help us fix them!

Finally, please be mindful of the fact that we are the guests of the Severna Park branch of the Public Library.  If the library closes, as it did last week, we must cancel our meeting.  You can check the library’s website which is at www.aacpl.net to be sure.  You can also call their main number at 410-222-7371.
